Why Golden Week Bookings Arrive in Two Waves

Japanese holidaymakers reserving southern Korea trips often split into an early planner cohort and a late package-buyer cohort—each with different cancellation behavior.

Japanese holidaymakers booking Jeollanam-do packages during Golden Week rarely behave as a single cohort. Our lead-time histograms consistently split them into early planners—reserving six to ten weeks out through wholesalers—and late package buyers purchasing two to three weeks before departure.

Each cohort carries different cancellation curves. Early planners amend dates more often when yen exchange rates shift; late buyers cancel outright when ferry schedules tighten. Hotels that priced solely on total inbound volume missed the operational difference: early cohorts request longer stays; late cohorts compress dining spend into the first forty-eight hours.

Wholesalers printing autumn brochures should note which cohort they target. Length-of-stay tables in our Inbound Origin Profile Study separate the two bands explicitly.
